No need to Disclose Duterte's Health Status, Noting that the Former is only resting due to Exhaustion over the Laast few Days, Says Salvador Panelo
There is no need to disclose the status of President Rodrigo Duterte's health, noting that the former is only resting due to exhaustion over the last few days, Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said Friday.
"The President is strong. He is strong as a bull," Panelo said in an interview on dzBB.
"Minsan nakakatawa na lang 'yung mga kritiko natin. Pati 'yung mga...kailangan daw may medical bulletin kasi nasa Saligang Batas. Ang nasa Saligang Batas, in case of serious of illness. Eh wala ngang illness eh, whether serious o slight," he added.
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano and Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat on Thursday said Duterte's health status should be disclosed to the public as it is a national concern.
Senator Leila de Lima also called for transparency saying that Malacañang has a "moral obligation" to go beyond what the Constitution requires, citing Sec. 12, Art. VII, which states that in case of serious illness of the President, the public shall be informed of the state of his health.
Malacañang earlier assured the public that Duterte, who is 72 years old, is only "taking some time off to rejuvenate."
This was echoed by Panelo on Friday, saying that despite his continued private time, he is still working.
"Alam ninyo si Presidente maraming trabaho. Ang dami niyang ginawa in the last 26 days kaya halos kulang ang tulog niya. Kaya natural lamang na gusto niya ring magpahinga. But at the same time he's working, he's working like hell. He reads a lot, madami siyang binabasa, maraming reports, nagsa-strategize siya. Nagtatrabaho pa rin siya kaya nga lang hirap lang siya humarap sa media," Panelo said on dzBB.
Duterte on Thursday marked his first appearance outside Malacañang since missing Independence Day rites on Monday.
He visited Villamor Air Base in Pasay City amid rumors regarding his ailments.
Presidential assistant Christopher "Bong" Go also released photos which showed the President reading through one of the folders before him. The photos were taken at Bahay Pagbabago inside Malacañang grounds. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KG, GMA News
